Pugs in their Forever Homes

We always love to hear how our adopted pugs are doing! If you have a story and pictures you would like to share please go to "contact" and someone will get in touch with you for your submission!

BUSTER BO

Herb and I are both retired, he is 11 yrs older than I so needless to say I love to travel and am out and about constantly where as Herb likes to spend a lot of time at home.  We had to put down our 14yr old min pin Rocko in December after coming to terms with missing him I started talking to Herb about a dog he wouldn’t hear of it but I thought he needed a companion.  My daughter had done some research on breeds and kept suggesting a Pug as a good match but we both new that Herb would have a hard time being patient training a puppy.  Jodie found the site for Pug rescue and we did some looking when Buster Bo came up I kept showing his picture to Herb, he agreed he was cute but what really weakened him was his name, see previously we had a dog named Buster which was really Herbs companion.  Well the rest is history after being told Buster was no longer available we got a call saying he now was and Herb reluctantly agreed.  All I can say for the rest of our story is that he is the best thing to happen to us and especially  to Herb. Buster is the most lovable playful dog we have ever had.  We are planning a family trip with our children and grandchildren to Mexico and Herb doesn’t want to go because he is worried about leaving Buster and can’t believe our dog sitter could possibly take good enough care of him.  Outside of our family he is the love in our live and I can’t possibly tell you the joy he brings us. Thank you, thank you to Pug Rescue.

LUCY AND AUGIE

The Midwest Pug Rescue - Minnesota Division (MPR-MN) does everything right to help the pugs they rescue ... right from the start they let me know what they are doing and I saw first-hand the importance of foster homes and top notch care and compassion in ensuring successful pug placement in 'forever' homes. It was evident that although dog fostering can be both a rewarding and wonderful time, it is not all peaches and cream. There are struggles. For example, prior to my adoption of 'Lucy' she endured many visits to the vet and two major surgeries. Never a complaint was heard from the MPR-MN when it was determined that 'Lucy' would need a second surgery to repair internal damage due to her long-term repetitive breeding in a puppy mill. It was always about Lucy's needs first. Again, prior to adoption of my second pug from MPR-MN, 'Augie' needed to have his front leg amputated due to a car accident and neglect on behalf of his then owner to seek medical attention at the time of the accident. Augie also endured many visits to the vet. Fortunately for Augie, he was a lean, young dog with a great attitude and his recovery for the most part was quick. Augie's care and successful recovery was always the priority. As most of their dogs suffer from many different medical and emotional needs, their rehabilitation is expected to take many months. They (MPR-MN) were careful to introduce both my adopted dogs to me at their speed and most importantly, allowed us to build up a mutual trust. They recognized the right time for their dogs to move on to forever homes. MPR-MN is SO good at this!
Foster homes coupled with volunteerism are indeed the most important and most needed resource for any rescue or shelter. MPR-MN obviously has a flexible and reliable group of fosters and volunteers giving them the ability to build and to adapt to the ever changing world of animal rescue. But, the needs of their rescue can and does change in the blink of an eye when a special medical need is realized. Their desire is to give EVERY dog the same chance at a successful adoption and money is the next most needed component to guarantee that this happens.

Donut

July 2, 2010 - Donut just went to meet his new vet, and got a healthy thumbs up--he weighed in at nearly 8 pounds!  He loves to eat! His favorite past times are wrestling around with all of his brothers and sisters, running and sunning in the backyard, and snuggling and snoring during snooze times.  He's been doing awesome with potty training, and fetch, too.  The adoption process has been an amazing journey!  His personality fits in so well with our family, and he's been such a blessing to all of us.  We've come to believe that pugs' faces are flat in the forehead so you have a soft, fuzzy target to smooch!  We'll keep you posted on Donut's new adventures.

Again, thank you to Lauri and Paul, and the Rescue--you've touched our lives in such a wonderful way!

Doug

June 28, 2010 - Well it has been almost a month since we adopted Doug and is PERFECT. His house training is still in progress but he is doing fairly well. He absolutely loves being around people and other dogs. He is really well behaved and is starting to love his kennel. We will soon be taking him to his first grooming appointment to get his nails cut (since he won't let us do it) and his 12 week vet visit. We couldn't be any happier with our baby and can't wait to update you as he gets older! I have attached a couple pictures for you to see how he has grown. He is about 6 pounds now and almost all of his puppy fur is gone. And the dreaded shedding has begun...

Carmen (previously Cruiser)

July 1, 2010 - Carmen has been a wonderful addition to our family.  We are working professionals, and this is our first dog.  We want to commend Lauri Boxrucker for making a great selection for us out of so many pugs in her care.
Lauri obviously has a knack and good sense of the right dog for the situation of the adoptive family.  Carmen adapted to her new home PERFECTLY, beyond our wildest expectations.
We are both working during the day, away from Carmen, she made a VERY smooth transition.  Carmen loves all her new beds and full run of the house while we are away.  She loves her new backyard and kiddie pool.
Carmen's report card while we've been away has been close to A+, we don’t worry at all to let her run the house while we are away.  She has really not done anything "wrong" or destructive while we are away, she's had only 2 accidents in the house in the 1.5 months she's been with us.   She loves her morning attention from Mona and I, and she goes crazy with affection when we get home.  She loves her walks around the lakes and woods, everyone loves her and the feeling is mutual. She loves car rides and joining us on patio cafes around the city for sightseeing and occasional treats dropped from our plates.  When we rattle the leash and car keys its impossible to keep her controlled (in a fun way).

For those thinking about rescuing a pug, we'd certainly say do it, and go thru Midwest pug rescue.

FOR US, THE BEST THING WE CAN SAY IS THAT A PUG CAN BE A WONDERFUL DOG CHOICE EVEN FOR THOSE WITH BUSY LIFESTYLES AT WORK

Thanks!
Craig and Mona

Thunder

July 1, 2010 - Things are going well.  Thunder is a very loving young boy.  He is still a little shy with people, mainly men, but has been doing better.  He is very well loved, and at times a little spoiled.  We are enjoying him very much, and are happy we chose the MN Pug Rescue.  Thank you so much you giving us a great new addition to our family!!

Abbey

When I received Abbey she was in very poor shape.  Her toe nails had not been cut in a long time, she had ear infections and she is blind and deaf due to neglect by her previous owner.  Because she is such a sweet dog I determined that I would adopt her and let her live out the rest of her life in as much comfort as possible.

Now I adore her.  She lets you know when she wants to go outside by barking ferociously for such a little dog.   After enough time in the same area she knows her boundaries and will follow me around – based on the scent of my clothes.

We cuddle and sleep together on the couch when she is able to settle down.   For an old girl she has lots of energy.  Constantly walking, walking, walking and that little nose of hers works very well.  It is hard to get a picture of her as she doesn’t want to sit still.

She can smell food a mile away I am just not sure if she is walking in search of food or just for the smell of it!

Jasmine (her pug sister) is her sofa.  I think it gives her comfort to sit on Jasmines back whenever possible.  Right now Abbey is healthy and happy.
